Archery

Is one of many free campout activities supervised by YMCA staff. Available to parents and children. Held outdoors for fall and spring campouts. Indoors at Camp Tecumseh in winter. All equipment provided.

Arena Football

Chicago Rush plays at Horizon in Rosemont. Season goes from beg. of Feb through end of May. Winnipeg nation has sponsored event open to federation, family and friends. Barbeques

Typically a tribal event at beginning or end of program year. Most BBQs are open to families. Some invite alumni as well.

Bowling

Usually a nation event. Typically includes pizza after bowling. Sims Bowl in Des Plaines is a favorite because of low cost. Format is frequently one game regular bowl with child bowling first ball and parent 2nd. 2nd game is usually crazy bowl. Usually trophies awarded on tribal basis.

Camping – Guides & Princesses

Each nation is scheduled for 3 campouts per program year in fall, winter, and spring at local YMCA camps in heated cabins with all meals provided. Go on Saturday and return on Sunday. Can usually go up on Friday night for additional fee. Activities include a variety of YMCA staff supervised activities, as well as tribe sponsored games with trophies awarded to winning tribes. See camping section for current costs. Scholarships available.

Camping – Blazers & Mates

There are 3 campouts a year. Fall and spring are in tents, usually in or around state parks. Usually go on Friday night and return on Sunday. Food cooked by group. Cost $20-$25 per person. Winter campout is at lodge or otherwise indoors.

Camping – Other

The Winnipeg Nation sponsors a tent campout, usually the first weekend in June. Go on Saturday morning and return Sunday. Open to all including family. $10 per person fee includes campsite, dinner on Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday. Unstructured activities. Possibilities include hiking, fishing, and rock climbing. Canoeing - Camp

Is one of many free campout activities supervised by YMCA staff. Available to parents and children during spring and fall campouts, weather permitting. All equipment provided.

Canoeing - Other

Usually one-day event on the Fox or Des Plaines river. Winnipeg nation has annual event in August. Cost is $25 - $40 per canoe. Open to families and friends. Recommend either Freeman’s Canoe Rentals in Yorkville (630) 553-0515 or C & M Canoe Rentals in Wedron  (815) 434-6690. All equipment provided. Distance 9-15 miles. Duration 4-6 hours. Bring lunch.

Christmas caroling & party

A nation event that can include families. Caroling at retirement home or hospital with party afterwards. Winnipeg nation sings at Luther Retirement home.

Climbing tower

Is one of many free campout activities supervised by YMCA staff. Available to parents and children during spring and fall campouts, weather permitting. Not available at Camp Edwards. All equipment provided.

CoCo Key Water Resort

At CoCo Key Water Resort, we have just about what you are looking for. Everything you need to add a little spash to your next group event. With over 65,000 square ft of Key West themed water resort adventures, party rooms, etc. Check with CoCo Key to see when it is Indian Guides/Princess Month. Join us from 3-9pm for only $12 per person.

Crafts

Usually part of tribal meetings. See craft section for crafts available through program office. Also, available at most YMCA camps at a nominal fee.

Daddy Daughter Date Night

Usually includes dinner, flowers for the girls, photos of dads and daughters and dancing. Cost usually $10 - $15 per person depending on dinner options. Plaines nation has had success with Casa Royale in Des Plaines (847-297-6640), and uses a DJ ($150)

Fun Fair

Annual federation event. It is open to family and friends. Games of skill, entertainment, and food.

Games

Usually part of tribal meetings. Program office has many suggestions for games. Also part of most nation campouts. Typically sponsored by a tribe, with trophies for winners presented on Sunday morning

Graduation

Ceremony for graduates usually at spring campout or last well attended Nation event of the year. Graduates presented with memento. Program office has suggested ceremonies.

Halloween party

Nation event.  Each tribe sponsors a game of skill with candy or small prizes for winners.  Food provided. Prizes for best costume and tribal game.

High ropes challenge course

Recommended for ages 10 and up. Series of challenges done with partner 30 feet off the ground. $200 per group. Recommended max of 14 people. Need certificate of insurance from program office. Contact Marty Knuth at 847-718-7775 for more info

Hiking

Usually done on tribal level at campouts.

Horseback riding

Available at Camp Tecumseh for $8 fee.

Ice cream making and tour

Ice skating

Mountain Nation sponsored event, open to Federation, usually the weekend between Christmas and New Year at Rolling Meadows Ice Arena. 

Jelly Belly Tour

Jelly Belly Center is located in Pleasant Prairie, WI. The free Express Train Tour is only 35 minutes long. At the end of the tour you are rewarded with a free bag of Jelly Belly beans. Check out their website: http://www.jellybelly.com

Krispy Kreme Tour

Because of size restrictions, best as tribe event. Kids get tour, help make donuts and then eat them. No charge. Call (847) 827-8800 for info on Rosemont location.

Laser tag

Have group rates. Usually appropriate as nation event. Laserquest is one of better ones. Check this website for locations near you http://www.laserquest.com/us.html#Illinois

Meeting

Tribes try to meet 1 –2 times per month. Meetings typically consist of scouting reports of what kids did since last meeting, info on upcoming events, game and or book, craft, and snack.

Mini-golf-indoor

Best as a tribal event.  Many park districts will give group rates.

Movie Night

Can be stand-alone nation or tribal event or Saturday night event at campout. Most camps have VCR and TV

Parade

Federation sponsored event at 4th of July and memorial day in Arlington Heights, and Mt. Prospect.

Pinewood Derby

For girls and boys. Federation provides car kits and track. Randhurst mall is possible location.

Pizza Bingo

At local pizza place with plenty of room. Barnaby’s in Des Plaines is a favorite for many nations. Some nations invite family. Kids get prizes for winning bingo. Usually includes raffle to offset costs. Many prizes can be donated. Charge $6 - $8 per person. Check with program office for bingo cards, and tax id for donation letters.

Rifle Range

Available at Camp Tecumseh for adults and children. $.60 per 10 rounds

Roller-skating

Nation event.  Orbit Skate Center off Northwest Highway in Palatine has group rates.  Call (847) 394-9199 for more info.

Row Boating

Is one of many campout activities supervised by YMCA staff. Available to parents and children during spring and fall campouts, weather permitting. All equipment provided.

Sailing on Lake Michigan

The tall ship Windy is available for “educational” groups at very reasonable rates. We qualify as an educational group. Cruises are 1 ½ hours and include 10 to 15 minute talks on topics including maritime history, sailing, maritime arts, physics, navigation, seamanship, marine wildlife, and the like. Sledding

Can organize on tribal or nation level at local park district hills

Sleepover at Glenview Park Center

Federation sponsored event. Activities include moonwalk, swimming, organized team sports, and crafts. $25 fee covers activities, crafts, pizza, drinks, and continental breakfast. Contact Danny Travis for more info (847-577-3718)

Sleepover at Grove nature center

Best in Spring or fall. Can sleep in nature center with animals or in replica long house. $18 per person includes campfire with snack, night hike, scavenger hunt, stories, and breakfast in morning. Call 847) 299-6096

Slide Show

A great way to end the year at Spring campout after dinner. Solicit slides from everyone starting after the winter campout.

Snow Box Derby

Each tribe constructs sled made out of cardboard and tape to race at winter campout for trophies. If snow, then race for distance. If no snow, dads pull for speed.  Tradition is to burn the sleds at campfire after the race.

Soapbox Derby

Each tribe constructs car to race at fall or spring campout for trophies. Construction rules may vary. For safety reasons, race for distance and require helmets.

Swimming

Can organize on tribal or nation level at local park district pools. Contact program office for info on Glenview park district pool

Trivia Trail

Part of many nation campouts. Trivia questions are posted along a trail. Sometimes separate questions for kids and adults. Typically sponsored by a tribe, with trophies for winners presented on Sunday morning.

Tobogganing

Is one of many free campout activities supervised by YMCA staff. Available to parents and children during winter campout, weather permitting at Camp MacLean only. All equipment provided.

Tour of fire and/or police station

Because of size restrictions, best as tribe event. Contact local police and fire station. Mt. Prospect is particularly amenable. Contact Jim Miller (847-818-5254) or Bill Roscop (847-870-5650)

Witch hunt

Halloween haunted trail co-sponsored by Frontier and nations open to federation.

Wolves Game

Federation sponsored event usually in March. Can also do as nation or tribe.
